In 1998, the National Agency of Medicines in France, prohibited manufacturing, sale, import, or even possession of nosodes (human biologicals) and potencies less than 4Ch of animal sourced remedies, including Calcarea carbonica and Sepia. Since then many other medicines have been banned or restricted in EU, US and Canada. In our guest editorial this month, Dr. Gabrielle Traub shares that even the sale of Syzigium-jamb has been restricted. This month we pick up this special issue of regulating the sale of homeopathy medicines.
The Lancet meta-analysis that we probed in our last issue discussed the bias and the negativity that the conventional medicine is brewing against homeopathy. The effort to ban many useful homeopathic medicines or to restrict their sale seems to be just another tactic to nip the system. You can not ban a medicine until it is proved to be harmful. But the ban of nosodes and animal remedies in France is entirely unsubstantiated. It has never been proved that these medicines have been the cause of any infection or disease outbreak. Have the authorities ever banned any conventional medicine on such assumption? On one hand these people suggest that homeopathic medicine does not work and on the other hand they assume that homeopathic medicines may work dangerously. Isn’t it ironical!
If it continues this way, these guys will soon put a ban on all mineral remedies too. Minerals are potentially toxic. What will you do without your Argentums, Kalis, Iods, Aurums, Platina and more? And even our dear Belladonna will be out of our reach …leave aside Lachesis & Scorpion! Why don’t these people realize that in crude form and in excess nearly everything can have toxic effects. Nearly every allopathic medicine has known adverse effects, yet they do not put a ban on them. And here we have homeopathic medicines which are being banned or restricted just on the assumption that they may prove harmful!
What is your opinion on this issue? Do you think that homeopathic medicines should be more strictly regulated? If yes, then why? And if no, then how do we fight such suppression of our system? Share your views and opinions with me at email. This month our poll question also asks the same question. Please do vote and participate in the ongoing discussion.
Now I come back to the ezine in general. This is the last issue for the year 2005. This year has been a very special year for Hpathy and for this ezine, Homeopathy 4 Everyone. There have been many landmarks throughout the year but crossing the 100,000 visitors per month for Hpathy and increasing the subscriber base of Homeopathy 4 Everyone to more than 10,000 were worth celebrating. These landmarks just reflect the support and the participation of the homeopathic community in this movement called Hpathy! I hope in the coming year too we will continue to receive your love, affection, support and feedback. I also wish that in the year 2006 we will see many more professional homeopaths coming forward to join this movement.
This month’s issue comes to you with some very useful and thought-provoking articles. Read and Enjoy! Do remember to check the result of our last month’s quiz and also send in your feedback about this journal and Hpathy at email.
Seasons Greetings for the Holidays.
